Geology Lecture
The River Town of Goldendale and the Geologic Evolution of the Columbia River System.
Guest Lecturer: Steve Reidel, PhD Geology
Tuesday August 5 th 2:00pm
This lecture describes how volcanism, tectonics and the great Missoula floods of the Ice age shaped the Columbia Basin and changed the course of the Columbia River and its tributaries through time. This talk will trace the geologic history of the Goldendale area from about 17 million years ago to the present. Beginning about 13 million years ago until about 9 million years ago Goldendale was located along the banks of the Columbia River. Volcanism and tectonic forces eventually forces the river to abandon that channel and relocate to its present channel.
Location: Goldendale Community Library, 131 W. Burgen St.
Cost: Free
